01 Dec UPDATED – Sign the Petition to Support Outdoor Dining in La Mirada
With a population of roughly 48,183 (2019 Census), this weekend’s (11.28.2020) LA County Covid Data for the city is as follows; 1285 confirmed COVID19 cases ( 0.0266668%) and 28 deaths ( 0.00058%). Most of the deaths have occurred in our Senior Medical Facilities. Hundred of thousands of trips by local residents have been made going/coming within the City limits. With a similar amount of visitors to our city in these last eight months. This clearly is evidence that La Mirada, like many of the cities around us, is following the protocols set forth by governmental agencies and it’s working. Yet our businesses are not allowed to fully open and now the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health wants to close down outdoor dining again. Why?
It is self-evident that we as a community want a solution that minimized Covid deaths. In the beginning, fear of the unknown shook us but now there are guidelines we support. Therefore, fear must be replaced by reason. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s own data for La Mirada does not reasonably justify the course they wish us to endeavor on.
For that reason, the La Mirada City Council has passed a resolution OPPOSING the closure of Outdoor Dining and has instructed the Sheriff’s Department to not enforce these new restrictions. The La Mirada Chamber fully supports the City Council decision.
We encourage La Mirada residents to continue to shop in the city and support this petition.
Update – December 3, 2020
The support for our restaurants in La Mirada has been fantastic! We need another 100 signatures and we will meet our goal of 400 signatures by this Sunday. In the meantime, the “Open Up LA” movement is gaining momentum and La Mirada is now part of a larger movement to keep not only outdoor dining open. But it has also inspired many to question the motives and choices that the LA County Public Health Dept., has chosen. Watch the video and you’ll gain a larger picture of what is happening in the only County in the United States that has shut down its own Trillion Dollar Economy.
During these uncertain times, we encourage you to not forget about your favorite businesses in the community. Many have adapted how they operate to serve customers through non-contact ordering and delivery services. Other businesses will hopefully be opening in the near future. By supporting La Mirada businesses, you are keeping local residents employed and helping ensure the city emerges from this period with a strong and vibrant economy.
