27 Apr Civitas Coffee Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
City Council members joined the La Mirada Chamber of Commerce in celebrating the opening of Civitas Coffee. The ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for Daniel and Kat Kim’s Civitas Coffee took place on Friday morning, May 26th. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Steve De Ruse, Councilmen John Lewis and Larry Mowles, Cerritos College Board Member Zurich Lewis, Chamber President Rich Trujillo, Board Members Anna Li and Noel Jaimes, and others in the community.
Civitas Coffee started with an idea to become a community centerpiece. The goal was to provide high-quality artisan coffee, specialty teas, and gourmet baked goods to the city of La Mirada. As of February 16th, that has become a reality at the southeast corner of Rosecrans and Valley View. Through a soft opening, they were immediately received well by the local community, especially students from nearby Biola University.
Daniel and Kat both love the close-knit atmosphere of the La Mirada community. Noticing that there weren’t many options for quality coffee & tea in the area, they decided this was the place to open up their store. They decided on the name Civitas, which means ‘community’ in Latin, since it encompassed their vision to be an epicenter in a community. Their motto is to, “bring a community together, one cup at a time.”
Civitas Coffee uses and promotes small local area vendors. Their roaster, Jetty Coffee Roasters out of Los Angeles, roasts small batches and takes immense pride in his craft. Their pastries and vegan donuts are also baked fresh from local vendors in the Los Angeles region, including Sugarbloom Bakery and The Caffeinated Kitchen. At the end of the day, it’s not about what they offer, but about how they can connect with the community.
