Community and neighborhood improvements continue throughout La Mirada enhancing the quality of life, supporting high property values, and providing for a well-maintained infrastructure. Whether currently in the design phase or recently completed, these significant advancements build on La Mirada’s success of being a safe, attractive, and thriving community. Here are some projects of note:

Historic Preservation
The Neff Estate is undergoing restoration, as new roofs are currently being installed on the Neff Mansion, the George House, and the Carriage Barn. Repairs to all three historic buildings are expected to be completed this spring.

Recreational Enhancements
Splash! remains a favorite destination for families in La Mirada and the region. A new feature at Buccaneer Bay, including a six-lane mat racer slide and two aqua tube body slides, is currently being designed with construction expected to begin this fall. It is anticipated that it will be completed prior to the Buccaneer Bay 2020 season.

Quality parks continue to be important to La Mirada families. New playground equipment is currently being installed at Windermere Park and Gardenhill Park. This equipment features a rubberized surface material to improve safety and accessibility for children. Once finished, all six La Mirada park playgrounds will have been replaced over the past four years.

The Creek Park Master Plan, adopted in June 2018, will improve the popular 11-acre park along La Mirada Creek for generations to come. After significant community input, improvements are expected to include naturalization of the creek, new restrooms, terraced seating in various areas along the creek, fitness stations made of natural materials, and improvements to the trails and bridges to enhance access, safety, and aesthetics. The City is currently pursuing grant funding for the project.

Entertainment Amenities
The La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts recently had all 1,251 auditorium seats replaced with attractive plush seating. Sound system upgrades are in progress and will be completed soon. Partial funding for these improvements was received from a State of California grant.

Street Beautification
The median landscaping improvements along Rosecrans Avenue, La Mirada Boulevard, and Valley View Avenue are near renovation. They will feature a new design including plant species that are attractive, water-friendly, and meet new State of California requirements. The project will begin with enhancements to Rosecrans Avenue and La Mirada Boulevard first and then followed by Valley View Ave. There is a slight delay on the Valley View Avenue portion due to the coordination needed for the installation of street lights within the median.

Parkway and wall improvements were recently completed along the east side of Santa Gertrudes Avenue between Rosecrans and Alicante Road.

In order to keep the public-right-a-way looking attractive, street name signage and signposts throughout the city will be replaced. The project is expected to begin this spring. The current street name signs have become faded and may of the support poles have failed or are near failure. The stronger standard rectangular signs will include larger lettering with a mission-style font.

Road Improvements
Construction of the I-5 Freeway widening through La Mirada continues with one-third of the project constructed. The Valley View Avenue bridge is to be completed by December 2020. Caltrans expects completion of the entire project by 2021.

Street rehabilitation work will be taking place in the near future around La Mirada. The projects will include pavement rehabilitation, concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter repairs, upgrades of ADA access ramps, adjustments of utility covers, and restriping of the roadway. Improvements are expected on the following roads:

• Imperial Highway from West City Limits to Telegraph Road
• Telegraph Road from Leffingwell Road to Imperial Highway
• Alondra Boulevard from Stage Road to La Mirada Boulevard

Neighborhood Infrastructure
Phase 5 of La Mirada’s neighborhood infrastructure project is tentatively scheduled to begin this spring. This area is bounded by Imperial Highway, Biola Avenue, Stage Road, Valley View Avenue, and Milan Creek. Improvements include replacement of damaged curb, gutter, and sidewalk, upgrades to existing and placement of new handicap curb access ramps, removal, and replacement of slotted cross gutters, storm drain improvements, and lining of existing CMP pipe within the boundary.

These and other community enhancements taking place around the community continue La Mirada’s long-standing commitment to creating a city that residents and visitors can enjoy for years to come.
